The car was recently listed on Bring a Trailer and hammered at $33,000 + fees. The winning bidder was unable to fulfill his commitment to purchase; the following description comes from that listing:



"This 1973 BMW 2002 was imported by Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City and sold new from B&W Service in Hanover, Pennsylvania. The car was refurbished under previous ownership, with work including a repaint in the factory Agave, along with an interior refresh and a rebuild of the 2.0L inline-four, which is linked with a four-speed manual transmission. The brakes, suspension, and air conditioning were also serviced as outlined below, and modifications include a Weber carburetor, H4 headlights, a Hella LED third brake light, an electric fuel pump, and an electronic ignition system. This 2002 was subsequently shown at several events, earning awards at the 29th and 31st Annual Deutsche Marque Concours d' Elegance in Vienna, Virginia. It is now offered by the selling dealer with service records from new, spare parts, a tool kit, the purchase invoice, literature, and a clean Maryland title.



An exterior repaint in the original Agave Green was commissioned by a prior owner in 1988, along with the replacement of the trim and rubber seals. A donor car was sourced at that time for body repairs, and the chassis stamping for the donor is present on the passenger fender. A manual sunroof was optioned, and the paint and trim are detailed up close in the gallery below. Modifications include H4 headlights, Hella fog lights with covers, and a removable LED third brake light which has been added behind the rear glass.



Factory 13? steel wheels wear polished covers and are wrapped in Toyo Extensa A/S tires sized 185/70. The rear suspension features Bilstein shocks, and a torsion bar stabilizer was optioned when new. A brake fluid flush was performed in May 2019. The brown interior received new upholstery in 2009, and Coco mats line the floors. Amenities include tinted glass, a Behr air conditioning system, Sony head unit, wood shift knob, heated rear window, and more.



The factory three-spoke steering wheel is fitted with an aftermarket cover and fronts a 120-mph speedometer and an 8k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer displays 29k miles and has rolled once (documented with records). The 2.0L M10 inline-four was rebuilt approximately 5k miles ago in 2017 by Taunus, LLC in MD."
