Offered for sale is this well-documented 1968 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible L36 427/390 4-Speed. Equipped with a 390hp 427ci V8 mated to a 4-Speed automatic. $60k+ in recent work.
Final assembly in St. Louis, MO plant and delivered new to Sir Walter Chevrolet of Raleigh, NC with an original MSRP of $5,206.40. Original Equipment includes: International Blue Paint, Medium Blue Vinyl Interior, White Convertible Top, Poistract Axle 370R, 390hp Turbo-Jet V8 (L36), Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Windows, AM/FM Stereo Radio, Tinted Glass, Tinted Windshield and F70x15x2 Ply Tires w Stripe.
This example has spent time in North Carolina, Missouri and most recently in Maryland. The original owner was a Duke University student who owned the car from 1968 until 1979. The second owner, also from NC, kept the car until 2004. Under his ownership, it is reported that the car underwent a frame-on restoration in 1988 in all original colors.
Upon this Corvette’s move to Maryland – a no-expense spared service and restomod build was undertaken. Over $60,000 in recent major service has been completed in April 2021 just a few hundred miles ago (detailed records available). Work includes: Complete Engine Rebuild (original numbers matching), Complete Suspension Upgrade, New Wheels and Tires, Complete Brake Upgrade, Complete Transmission Rebuild, U-joints, Power steering control rebuild, alignment, tie rods, parking brake cable, and more.
A handful of carefully selected modifications help to bring the driving experience of this early C3 to more modern levels. Modifications include: Baer 6-piston Big Brake Kit, Front and Rear, Coilover suspension with upgraded swaybars/endlinks/ front control arms/rear trailing arms, tubular headers and custom exhaust, and 17” American Racing wheels.
This example is sold with a well-documented history with a detailed binder of prior owner information, original window sticker, reproduction window sticker, past and recent service history, some spares, a period Hot Rod magazine and a Clean MD Title.
