Vehicle Description
Show-stopping 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 Coupe finished in Cordovan Maroon over Black Vinyl. Complete nut and bolt restoration performed by Camaro expert Lucas Restorations with no expense spared. One of the finest available. 130 miles since restoration.
This numbers-matching SS was restored to factory specifications following an appraised and authentication by Jerry MacNeish in August 2012. In his report (in gallery), he notes that this car is an original L78 396 (375hp) with a Muncie 4-speed and factory 12-bolt rear axle. He further notes that original L78 exampales, especially 1968MY cars, are extremely rare and hard to find.
This Camaro’s original color, Cordovan Maroon (code NN) was selected only about 3% of the time. Add the black vinyl top and the 375 HP L78 option and you end up with a car which may be one of a kind. Under normal circumstances, this would not have been a good candidate for restoration. However, due to this Camaro’s drivetrain and color/option rarity an extensive concourse level revival was commissioned and completed in June 2014. Over $150,000 was invested to bring the Camaro to its current condition.
The restoration was entrusted to only the best names in the Camaro world including Lucas Restorations, Jerry MacNeish (engine build), and Jerry's Hot Rods (Paint/Body). Please email us for a link to over 600 images which detail the complete restoration process.
Upon completion this Camaro was first shown at the Camaro Nationals in the Bow Tie judging class earning an almost perfect score of 983 out of 1000. The following year it competed in the Legend judging class earning an equally impressive score of 4773 out of 5000. As it sits it's a 95.5% car according to its scores.
American Camaro Association Legend Certification completed on 6/26/2015, notes on what need to be addressed for this Camaro to earn a 100% are included. I want to stress how EXTREMELY MINOR the deficiencies were. For example, it was noted that the car was wearing a 1969 antenna at the time of judging, as a result 15 points were deducted (no joke). Some items have already been addressed, additional parts have been sourced which will bring this Camaro closer to a perfect 5000/5000. All of the heavy lifting has been done.
Available for immediate delivery. Connect with us at 202-531-8505 or info@performanceautogallery.com for more information.
